We meet Joanne Kulman in this compelling tale. Joanne is a Ventura County prosecutor. She is in the middle of a divorce from her husband, a computer genius who is currently in jail. Joanne is involved in a case where a group of teenage boys are accused of holding up a convenience store. One of the boys, Ian, is developmentally disabled and it is obvious that he was manipulated into the robbery. Joanne finds herself attracted to the lawyer who is defending the boys and also distracted by her own custody battle.

Ian vanishes and his mother receives an annoymous phone call that claims that Ian has been murdered and is buried in the mountains outside of Los Angeles.

Fans of Rosenberg's last book, BURIED EVIDENCE, they will be disappointed in this current effort. The characters lack charisima and the plot is muddy.
