Superintendent Richard Jury of Scotland Yard is recovering from being shot and left for dead. As he lies in his hospital bed recuperating, he becomes bored with trying to entertain himself. He (fortunately?) encounters on the mysterious disappearance of the daughter of his surgeon. Her name is Nell, and she and her horse both have vanished from a stud farm. No leads were found and no ransom has been demanded. This has caused the case to be set aside by the local constabulary.

Jury turns to one Melrose Plant to help him by getting into the world of horse breeding and racing. The story is fun and serious at varying times. You are in for a worthy audiobook performance of a fine mystery.
