We don't ordinarily publish negative reviews, but this movie is a notable exception because I thought it was incredibly demeaning and completely without redeeming factors. This movie is so filled with cliches and worn-out plotting that it is reprehensible. Steve Martin can be a fall-down funny performer, but he's just so wrapped up in playing his cloying, stereotypical, stuck-up white lawyer dealing with a boisterous and belligerent black woman that I was truly offended. Even Martin's turn at proving "white men can't dance" and his overdone attempts at street slang is just pathetic and pandering. Queen Latifah is similarly saddled with the media images of Black Americans in her role as an worldly-wise escaped convict who was innocent. Betty White, an actress whom I truly admire, is particularly offensive as the racist neighborhood snoop. I would hope the world was beyond considering this kind of fare to be entertaining on any level. Its a crime that Disney would produce, let alone reproduce, this dreck. I didn't even look at the extra features on the DVD for this review.
