Once again we are treated to another adventure in the life of P.I. Sharon McCone. Having followed her from her early days at the "All Souls" where she had a cozy room and not much money, we now see Sharon with her constantly growing organization located in San Francisco on one of the funky areas the wharf. She now has a lot of employees working for her and more are brought on board all the time. In this outing, she is in danger of losing her Private Investigator's License though a complicated plot to ruin her and her business.

The very clever plotter is out to prove that Sharon and one of her employees broke some major rules. Her employee is in jail and Sharon is mad. With a lot of digging and memory searching Sharon comes up with a suspect who might be after her ruin.

It's a complicated plot and very much up to the skills of Muller. The author throws us a surprise in the ending that I am not sure I liked, but this mystery keeps you interested until the end.
