I loved the cats, but I really have kind of taken a dislike to their dandified owner. He is very wealthy and shops a lot locally as well as helping out new business to get established. This time, a trust that was set up by Qwilleran is funding the rebuilding of a bookstore. Qwilleran's lady friend will be running it. Qwill, as he is called, is also putting together another spectacle to celebrate a city anniversary.

The Cats begin acting up when a bunch of really rare wild turkeys come close to their outdoor sunroom. As usual, they know something. Qwill finds a body on their property. It's murder, of course, and the method is exactly like a much early-unsolved murder that happened in northern Michigan.

With the help of the two Siamese cats, Qwill neatly pulls off the opening of the bookstore, the pageant event, and solving the murder.

For the first time, author Jackson is beginning to explain to us that these cats are quite special and maybe genetically engineered from a very unusual breed of psychic cats. Whatever. These two cats have become beloved by readers through some twenty-six stories by the brilliant author, although her characters are getting to be quite rigid and staid.
