The story opens with the torture and death of a Queen's Messenger. He was making what he thought was a routine delivery to Costa Rica. His kidnapped and brutally murdered the Secret Intelligence Service is responsible for finding out the reasons behind it. SIS agent Peter Ashton is assigned to find out the truth. Ashton finds an unusual set of violent characters: a Cuban national who was a big shot in Cuba, a Turkish assassin, and a low level civil servant who works in the passport office. When a housewife is killed during a burglary in the suburbs of London the pieces begin to be related. The result is an exciting tour of suspense.

There is a bit much violence for my taste. The torture & murder in Chapter one at least will tell the reader who winces to put this one down.
