The author, Dr. Joanna Burger is a professor of biology and has written academic books on birds. This book is for all of those who are always looking for animal/bird stories. I think we all still want Bambi for a pet. The good doctor tells us that birds are her passion, especially parrots. Fifteen years ago she adopted neglected parrot named Tiko. Tiko had been abused and orphaned and was about thirty years old.

Tiko soon settled into a gentler and more loving life. Shortly after recovering, Tiko began to build nests around the house. He would try to coax his owner into them. The parrot also nursed the doctor when she was stricken with a case of Lyme's disease.

This is a close look at the unusual mating habits of a parrot who has begun to have communication with a human. It's interesting, somewhat humorous and gracefully brief.
