Carnivals and amusement parks are always historically interesting. Fred Thompson had a vision that had adults reverting to kids and the joy of childhood. In the late 1800's, Thompson came up with elaborate playgrounds for grownups. The monument he built for all to enjoy was named Luna Park. This playground sparkled with electric lights. It was 1903 and Coney Island became the place to play. Luna Park was part of Coney Island. Thompson was an architect who began to see possibilities in creating spectacular places to play. Once there you would see an enormous Moorish building to explore. There was a giant see-saw and an early Trip-To-The-Moon ride. Thompson also built the Hippodrome Theater in Times Square, which houses major productions.

This is a history of one of the foundations of modern entertainment that is well worth investigating. The creators of playful enjoyments - from Barnum to Disney - are always interesting people to read about.
