Laura Esquivel, the author of LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE has returned to take us on a ride through a new love story and a tribute to her father.

This tale is about Jublio who was born with a smile on his face. He was always gifted with the ability to hear what was in people's hearts. He could hear the singing sand dunes and the whispers of insects. As a boy he played the interpreter between his Mayan grandmother and his Spanish-speaking mother. He would translate their angry words into other more respectful words. Although they had hated each other they began to love each other. As Don Jublio is dying, he is mute and estranged from his beloved wife who will not speak to him. The reader will learn the reason for their rift and about the mysterious death of the son no one mentions.
