Grafton is right on track with the "P" mystery. This one is a fast and enjoyable read. The plot concerns a missing doctor. Dr. Dowan Purcell has been missing for some eight weeks when Kinsey is hired by his ex-wife to take on the case. The ex-wife believes the police are not doing enough. As Kinsey soon discovers Dr. Purcell was admired and loved by everyone he knew and everyone he worked with. His current wife is helpful to Kinsey and it is apparent that she too cares for Dr. Purcell.

The ex-wife is not nice about the current wife and casts a lot of suspicion in her direction. Everyone Kinsey contacts has a different theory as what caused the doctor to vanish including kidnapping and cheating on Medicare bills.

Our Kinsey solves all with her usual untiring work and organized mind. One of the best things about Kinsey is that she has no visible conceits and is a really down-to-earth woman for whom we can all root. She's smart and thorough. She will persist until she uncovers the truth, which of course she does. Clever Kinsey.

I liked this clearly good mystery from Grafton. There is less involvement with Kinsey's childhood problems and estranged family. That is an improvement. Just a good read and a compelling mystery.
