Review of "The Passion of Artemisia" by Susan Vreeland

The passion of Artemisia is painting. When she is 18, she is raped by her painting teacher. Artemisia is humiliated in a papal court for publicly accusing her teacher. Her father does not stand up for her adnd she understands that she will never live the event down. She begs to have a marriage arranged for her. Her new husband is an artist, too. Artemisia goes to Florence with him where her talent for painting flourishes. Her career moves ahead faster than her husband's, and when her daughter is born, she tries to combine her career and being a mother. Her adventures and life problems take Artimisia through a deeply colorful taperstry of this post-Renaissance era in Italy.
