Amelia Peabody is at it again. It's New Year's Eve 1917. It's been a wild winter and there is a threat of German submarines as Amelia and her family, once again travel to Egypt. Amelia's husband, Radcliffe is a very famous archeologist. Their son, Ramses, and his wife Nefret have come, along with their grouchy cat.

We know this family from the author's many prior tales of adventures that endanger and endear the whole brilliant family. All of them are formidable and they have been involved in several prior mysterious happenings surrounding their digs and implicating their friends. There are many more family friends and a few more cats in this story. Radcliffe has a black-sheep brother named Sethos. He pays the family an unexpected visit.

Once again a royal tomb has been looted and the family prepares to get to their digs as fast as possible. When get there they find a body. Someone was murdered and the family works together with their unusual and exciting methods. As the mystery deepens, each member is involved in the pursuit of the evil people who desecrate tombs.

Amelia is my favorite character, with her brains and parasol that turns into a sword. Her family has, unfortunately, grown too fast. They were all fascinating as children, but now all of them are grown up and each is off on their own way of solving mysteries.
