Carolyn Quick Tillery gives us a collection of recipes along with little stories and many old pictures. All this traces the history of contributions of the American military wife. The book begins with an Independence Tea Party that features the recipes that were served by the women of Edenton, North Carolina at a party that was held on October 25, 1974. Tillary describes the scene and the feeling of these wives.

Each chapter begins with a menu and then a story about a historic period. We get to share their recipes and through the talent of the author we also begin to understand the times and the history of each event.
