This is a valuable biography that tells about the life of this legendary mistress of King Louis XV of France. With her critical insight, this author had previously given us the fascinating biography of Phillippe, duc de Orleans.

The reader can meet this famous woman from the time she was born into very modest circumstances. The time is early the eighteen century in Paris. Her life is quite remarkable as this self-made woman moves up in her world. There are some dramatic events in Pompadour's life that are well covered. We learn that she groomed and lured her way up in the world by using rich men for her own benefit. From her early marriage to a tax collector all the way through to her lifelong involvement with the elite of France you will find her story makes a fascinating read.

I don't think you will find anything new about this amazing life of a beautiful woman. Author Algrant spins a tale that keeps the reader interest from the first page. The smells and flavors of the time is the background that gave birth to this woman and her immense influence on the royal court of France.
