You are in for a real treat. H.Rider Haggard gave us some terrific books with stories of African adventure and mystery. This is again about Alan Quartermain, who was the hero of "KING SOLOMON'S MINES."

In "Marie," Quartermain tells us a story about his first wife. Marie Marais was Dutch woman and this tragedy-ridden tale tells a tumultuous and moving story set in the 1830's focusing on the French colonist's lives and their problems with the Zulu tribes in South Africa. Allan and the Boer Commissioner take a trip to visit a Zulu despot called Dingaan. Allan loses his wife and his friend in a massacre.
