The first installment in the "In The Cards" series by Mariah Fredericks, we meet Anna who's developed a crush on geek-turned-studly boy named Declan. Anna's friends Eve and Syd use a set of tarot cards to try to convince her that she's got the goods to catch Declan's eye, but she's not convinced. So they take Anna to the mall for a fashion update. There's a fly in the ointment when the three girls catch wind of a rumor that Declan's been seen kissing a popular girl named Alexa. At least it wasn't "Brittney". Anyway, it turns out the Declan's interest in Alexa waned when she turned out to be too geeky for him, and he and Anna do hook up. Naturally, Anna's self-esteem goes through the roof, but there are always pitfalls in the ways of love. It's a breezy light read for tweens ages 10-14.
