I read Liz Smith and sometime I even enjoy the gossipy tidbits. Unfortunately, this book spends more time talking about Liz, her childhood, her life and just generally herself than dishing dirt. Oh, there are a lot of tidbits about the famous people she has known and written about. Most of the hoop-la preceeding the release of "Natural Blonde" has dwelt on the revelation of Ms. Smith's bi-sexual background. This is such a small part of the revelations in the book that it surprising that anyone would dwell on this aspect of such an interesting person.

The early chapters cover Liz's birth and childhood in Fort Worth, Texas. When she moves on to her career and the folks she knows in the glamourous world of movie stars, things get better. Still, I don't find it at all titillating that Robert Redford likes Extra-Crispy Colonel Sander's fried chicken, or that Woody Allen hates hearing or reading about what people thing about his films. Ho-hum!
