This is Higgins 30th book and his last. Two gangsters, Nick Cistaro and Arthur McKeath have an unusual relationship with two of the top FBI men in the city. They meet on a regular basis for dinner and sharing information. In the midst of this odd relationship are a few side stories that are character sketches unto themselves. There is the crippled Vietnam vet who is planing on cheating pharmacies out of painkillers. We also meet an antique dealer who is ignoring paying off his loan until the bad guys break his teeth. Then there is also an FBI Agent whose wife is lousy at picking stocks. In the end, all of these strings are pulled together for a very satisfying read. Higgins will be missed by his readers.
