Debbie Stoller credits her Dutch heritage for her fondness for knitting. Knitting is obviously both a practical and satisfying avocation, but Stoller invites women to create knitting circles as social events. My sister often tells the story of how frustrated she was when she would ask our grandmother (a family legend for her knitting) to teach her how to knit. Can't you see what I'm doing, dear?
