Artist Sam Knowles has been deaf since he was sixteen. He stands accused of the violent death of his fiancee, Anne Farrell, also deaf. Caleb Knowles believes that his brother is innocent, and sets out to prove it. During a session with one of his clients, Caleb discovers that he has a curious connection to the murdered woman. As he investigates, it becomes clear that everyone connected to this case is in danger, and that includes Caleb.

It's a very readable mystery.
