Good old Miami and Edna Buchanan can always be depended upon to present us with a light and readable thriller. This time, a nude body has washed up on a Miami Beach. Her name was Kaithlin Jordan and this is the second time she has died. In fact her former husband is on death row awaiting his execution where he is just two weeks away from his date with death. Because Kaithlin's body was never found and because she was murdered while her husband is on death row, the husband is freed after spending ten years in jail for the crime he could not have committed.

Newspaper reporter Britt Montero takes on the investigation of the two murders as a story for her paper. Britt's digging into the crimes began to be as confusing as any story she has tackled previously. As she organizes her notes and interviews of the people involved then and now, Britt begins to find that Kaithlin might have framed her husband for her death to escape from her abusive marriage... But where did she run to and why was she murdered now?

Good mystery, as expected, and Buchanan introduces us to new characters to enjoy and a few older ones to remember fondly.
