Legends of the Bretheren Court
by T. T. Sutherland In this prequel to the "Pirates of the Carribbean" movie, our hero Captain Jack Sparrow finds himself in trouble again. A ghostly army of shadows is out to kill the Pirate Lords who govern pirates around the world. The soothsayer Tia Dalma foresees this evil, and calls on Jack Sparrow who is the only man who can save the Pirate Lords. The story mixes some familiar characters with some new ones. Jack is indeed the captain of The Black Pearl and rallies his crew led by his first mate Hector Barbossa, young Billy Turner, and a friend since childhood named Jean. The story will keep the young reader helplessly captive as the tale unfurls and the characters they love from the movies come to life once again. For ages 9-12, it's a treat that will keep them laughing and reading! |

Amazing Baby: Rainbow Fun!
by Beth Harwood This little board book teaches little ones about colors. Each page shows a page with concentric circles of color through a peephole in the middle of the page. With each page, you see things that are the same color as the page. An orange fish, or the yellow sun. Just a great way to make your baby even more amazing. |

Uncover a Dolphin
by David Gordon Remeber the "Visible Man" models? Maybe I'm showing my age. This full-size board book peels back a layer of a 3D model of a dolphin, from skin to skeleton and shows the young reader scientific information about the life of these amazing creatures. You learn about pod life and how they breathe through their blow hole. It's a gentle way of introducing the world of zoology and other sciences to children ages 6-9 as they learn about the dolphin. |

Hot Issues, Cool Choices
by Sandra McLeod Humphrey The issue of bullying has been in the news quite a bit lately, but for the kids who are the victims it means much more than just another social issue to cluck at the TV about. To them it's their life. Author Sandra McLeod Humphrey offers this book for children on both sides of the problem - both the bulliers and the bullied. Using stories told by children to other children, she helps bullies to understand why it's wrong to torment someone who is smaller, weaker, or just a little different. And she helps the kids who can't seem to find a way out of their nightmare to understand why bullies do what they do and to equip themselves to deal with the situation. There are a couple of Biblical references in the author's remarks, but the book is far from preachy. It's kids talking to kids, telling what happened in their own schools. There are questions at the end of each chapter for the child to ask themselves, which provides an excellent opportunity for the parent to become involved. Every parent should give their child a copy of this book. |

Our Favorite Time of the Year
by Imre Vitez, Sandy Vitez, Kaitlyn Vitez, Zachary Vitez, Samuel Vi Here we have a simple photo diary of two families' trip to the beach on Long Beach Island. Large, colorful pictures show the kids and their parents frolicking in the sand and in the ocean, sharing some memorable moments. While you're reading this with your kids, you could talk about trips you've made together or future trips that you might make someday. Simply charming. |
