Welcome to our archive of August 2006 audiobook reviews. A good audiobook is a joy to review because they combine the pleasure of a good read with the entertaining performance of a voice actor. Its very much like the old time radio programs (which are fun to download) because the put on a stage performance entirely with sound. We can't get enough of them, and now they're available on both cassette and CD! Can MP3 be far behind? Several websites now allow you to download audiobooks (as well as e-books). Whether you like to call it a book on tape, an audiobook, or book on CD, we present our audiobook reviews for your enjoyment.

The Art of the Incredibles Cards The diversity of the Chronicle publishers is clearly believable when you see some of the very current titles and the many selections of types of books and other delightful gifty stuff. Remember Mr. Incredible? Well they give us on a card with an envelope and a large space for you to write a note or a letter. His family is on a card also and many o the heroes and villains from that Pixar film. They left out ny favorite character, Edna, the designer but the cards are still very nice to send out. I hope they can do as well by the newest picture from Pixar, “Cars.” |

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe If you make it to The Restaurant At the End of the Universe you can watch the final destruction of the universe over and over again. Our heroes are trying to keep those nasty Vogons from destroying everygthing… but now it`s time for a cup of tea. Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect are the fellow travellers to this restaurant. Zaphod, he of the three arms and two heads is accompanied by Trillian and Marvin the very depressed robot who has stolen many a reader’s heart by now. In this unique restaurant, the food talks to them and begs to be eaten - and thats just one of the strangest things you have ever read before they encounter. Adams was a great writter. He will be missed, but he left us a treasure that emerges from the End of The Earth to the final discovery of the answer to life, the universe, and everything. The tales from Adams are not just science fiction or fantasy. They are the most fun books to read over and over. To see and hear this story over and over is always a great pleasure, and this new set is very well done and produced with only the listener’s pleasure in mind. |

Crisis You know that Cook will give you a medical thriller to leave you breathless. This time there is a big trial that immerses the listener in a gripping mystery. Dr, Craig Bowman is being sued for medical negligence. Doctor Bowman has been a devoted physician for many years, and is now is a partner in an exclusive and fancy medical group. Unfortunately, there is a Dr. Jack Stapleton, a medical examiner in York City and also the brother-in-law of our Dr. Bowman. It has been a lengthy trial, so Dr. Stapleton decides it is time to lend a hand and his expertise. Dr. Craige’s defense attorney is losing the case so Dr. Stapleton contends that they should exhume the corpse and disprove the malpractice charges against the defendant. The exhumation opens a Pandora’s Box of horrors and the author has given us another novel of suspense and medical information that makes any listener/reader a bit leery of hospitals. As usual the author has presented us with one more reason to distrust the medical world. |
