The author is a professional chef and a father of two. There are recipes for Scrambled Eggs and Fried Eggs to begin your day. This all makes sense because many men can’t cook these dishes and here are the simple and clear instructions. You can make good Sloppy Joes and excellent Tacos. Perhaps even roast a chicken. Why not? You get the clear and simple instruction to turn these dishes out All kinds of veggies are included among Dad’s new skills and for dessert there are Brownies and something called “a Kitchen Sink Sunday” that sounds look like real fun and they will taste yummy.

Salsas and Tacos: Santa Fe School of Cooking image

Salsas and Tacos: Santa Fe School of Cooking
by Susan D. Curtis

Gibbs Smith, Publisher
Book
Suggested Retail Price: $12.95 or as low as $10.36 from Amazon.com!

It’s a small price for this book, and it is just the right size (about 7” X 7), and it is delicious from cover to cover. The pictures alone are to drool over. There are fifty recipes from the top chefs of this well-known school. Some of the tacos and salsas are hot and spicy. Others are just plain tasty and great. I can’t wait to try out the Apple Pie Tacos. There is a recipe for Frijoles-Choros that sounds delightful. I am a wimp when it comes to the spicy food, even though the rest of the world seems to love anything that cause the eyes to tear and the tongue to burn. However there is one recipe for making Brunch Tacos that I want to try despite the risk.

There are many treats to try and clear instructions so that you won’t go wrong. As I said the pictures of the finished dishes are yummy to see along with some very handsome serving plates and bowls.

Suggested Retail Price: $9.95 or as low as $9.95 from Amazon.com!

There is a nice picture of this stalwart of cookware, the Dutch Oven, on the cover of the book. You can cook with it in or out of the house. Best of all you can cook any part of your meal using this busy pot. When you buy one for yourself the book tells you how to check out that the insides are smooth any bumps in the pot can cause hot spots and you do not want that. Also they tell you to check that lid sits flat. Now you are ready to go. Wait…not yet. This appliance is usually shipped with a wax coat on it so you have to scrub and heat it off before you can use it. Now you have seasoned your new oven and it will be a non-stick delight. There are more instruction in how to keep the oven in top shape. Now you can move onto some amazing recipes. I got stopped on page two. “Sticky Buns” sounds like a recipe I could do and I did. There are lots more bread recipes and just about anything you might want to try in your own patio or kitchen. This is one of the easiest little cookbooks to enjoy. It is spiral bound and has a clear plastic cover to protect it from the perils of pastry making.

This series on cooking and traveling from Whitecap Books is awesome. I am especially fond of Chinese food so I found this paperback to be exceptionally produced with me in mind.

The recipes begin with some of the wonderful snacks and soups from China. You then move on to main dishes and vegetables. Rice and noodles grace these pictorial pages and the methods you need to learn about to reproduce these great recipes.

Just like the other books, this one is a tour of the country. It is filled with terrific color pictures of the streets and food. You will spend enough time to really soak in the ambiance. When you move into your kitchen and the grocery store trip you are more than ready to astound your friends and your family.

This could be a great gift for anyone you know that likes to cook for the sheer pleasure of it. You might treat yourself and add any of these 'Food of' titles to your own kitchen and use you own skills. Best of all is the journey through the topic country that is pictured here to get you into the right mood.
