A good cookbook can inspire you to expand your repetiore of recipes. You can experiment with a cookbook, too. Its always exciting to write cookbook reviws, telling you what the great chefs and restaurants are doing. A good cookbook will guide you through new techniques and introduce exotic ingredients. When we write our cookbook reviews, we look for great ideas that the home chef can use, inviting text to tempt the tastebuds, and a sense of style. There's always room for another cookbook on our kitchen bookshelf and writing reviews for each one is a pleasure. 2006 seems to be the year for big and heavy books. This is another huge and heavy book that is filled with information you will enjoy having at hand. Author Mark Bittman gave us the great bestseller "How To Cook Everything." This time he gives us the best recipes from around the globe. You can wade through more than 1,000 international dishes to cook at home. Bittman makes the exotic accessible to every cook.

Learn how to shop locally and cook globally. Want Vietnamese tonight but it’s not something you know how to do. Never fear there are recipes in this book with ingredients available from you grocery store and you most likely already have the right tools. There are detailed instructions that are easy to understand with illustrations that show you how to make a delicious dish of, say, "Caramelized shrimp” for dinner.

The upshot of this monster cookbook is that the author makes it easy for you. There are also about fifty menu suggestions for you. Bittman is very good. Its no wonder he won the Julia Child cookbook award, and another from James Beard.

We are grateful to Chef Hoyer’s tour that he take us on and you have to know that this chef knows what he is doing. He is Sous Chef for Mark Miller’s Coyote Café. Chef Daniel Hoyer is also a teacher as well as a writer. This is one of the most extensive and enjoyable looks at the foods of Mexico I have ever seen.

You can learn how to build a cute fish tank that uses Cheerios as gravel. The fish are having a great time in the picture. Who'da thunk it? Betty Crocker, of course!
