When this book first came out, it was an incredible best seller. No one had gone into every corner of horrible murder and taken the reader along for a ghastly ride before Truman Capote did in this book. On November 15, 1959 in a small town in Kansas four members of a family by the name of Clutter were murdered. The murders were savage. There were almost no clues and no apparent motive for the crime.

Capote reconstructs the murder and investigation that led to the capture, trial and execution of the killers. In writing this book, he has given us the inside tale and shows us every detail of the crimes and the capture. Capote was famous before he wrote "In Cold Blood," but it was this book that made him an idolized writer.

Reader Scott Brick has performed in film and other media. He made tours as Cyrano and Macbeth, which brought him much-deserved fame. Further, he is a perfect reader for this famous novel.

People of a certain age will always remember Capote for the lighter things he wrote like "Breakfast at Tiffany's," and his appearances on The Tonight Show and Dick Cavett so many years ago, but we will never forget the chilling nightmare of "In Cold Blood."

His clients call on him to get then out of personal troubles also and they pay a pretty penny for that service.

Suddenly Scott is forced by a judge to take on a case of murder. It’s a court appointment and he cannot get out of it. The client is a drug addict and she is charged with the murder of a prominent man’s son. He has to represent this woman and by doing so he is going to lose everything he values. His wife his job and the big bucks he makes. At first he is sure the client is guilty, but as he moves unwillingly further into the case he begins to change his mind.

The story will make you warm to this lawyer and his losses. He has a delicious young daughter who understands all that is going on and roots for her dad. There are other good characters in the book and besides mentioning the classic story, “To Kill A Mockingbird” many times in the test you will end up comparing the story to that lovely old tale. Not as good, certainly, but every bit as heart-warming.
